Actress Nora Fatehi has been in the news following a court summons in connection with the ₹200 crore Sukesh Chandrashekhar extortion case. After the summons attracted attention, the actress's legal team has issued a clarification, stating that Nora is neither an accused nor suspected of any wrongdoing in the matter. She has been called to appear as a witness to assist the court.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the case was recently heard at the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, where Nora's legal representatives presented their position.
What Did Nora Fatehi's Lawyers Say?
Nora's legal team clarified that the actress has been summoned only as a witness in the case being investigated by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW).
Her lawyers informed the court that she had received the summons only recently and could not appear on the scheduled date because of prior professional commitments.
An application seeking exemption from her personal appearance was subsequently filed on her behalf. After hearing the application, the court adjourned the matter until November 6, 2026, and issued a fresh summons directing Nora to appear.
The legal team reiterated that being called as a witness does not mean that the actress is accused of participating in the alleged crime.
What Is the ₹200 Crore Sukesh Chandrashekhar Case?
Sukesh Chandrashekhar is accused of carrying out an extortion and fraud operation involving approximately ₹200 crore.
According to the investigation, he allegedly posed as a senior government official while lodged in Delhi's Rohini Jail and used this identity to extort money.
The Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing investigated the matter and filed a charge sheet. The case also involves provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Why Was Nora Fatehi Questioned?
During the investigation, the EOW questioned Nora Fatehi about her alleged association and communication with Sukesh Chandrashekhar and his wife, Leena Maria Paul.
The investigating agency recorded her statement under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). She was subsequently included as a prosecution witness in a supplementary charge sheet.
During questioning, Nora reportedly told investigators that her communication with Sukesh had taken place through his wife.
What Happens Next?
The court has scheduled the next hearing for November 6, 2026, and issued a fresh summons to Nora Fatehi.
For now, her legal team's position is clear: the actress has been called as a witness and is not an accused in the case. Her appearance is intended to assist the court as proceedings in the Sukesh Chandrashekhar matter continue.
