Yellow Milestone
You must have seen a yellow milestone on most of the roads. You will see it only on the National Highway. It also means that you are going on the National Highway. This is the road which is under the Central Government. The responsibility of its construction and maintenance lies with the National Highway Authority of India.
Black or White Milestone
When you enter a big city or district, you see black and white milestones there. These roads are maintained by the Municipal Corporation.
Green milestone
The green milestones are mostly maintained by the state government. This type of highway is used to travel from one district to another. If there is any problem in this highway, then it is the responsibility of the state government to get it fixed.
Orange Milestone
Orange coloured milestones are installed in villages. Whenever you enter a village, you will see a milestone of this colour. This colour represents the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
