Oh my God! Breaking the screen of this phone will cost over ₹1 lakh — as much as buying a new iPhone

After fold and flip smartphones, the next big innovation in the mobile world is tri-fold technology. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z TriFold, which folds three times, has become a major talking point. Currently available in South Korea, the device may launch in other markets, including India. However, what has truly shocked people is the extremely high cost of replacing its display.

Galaxy Z TriFold display repair cost will shock you

According to a report by SamMobile, the display replacement cost of the Galaxy Z TriFold is exceptionally high.

  • Outer display replacement:
Costs between KRW 1,37,000 and KRW 2,26,000, which is approximately ₹8,300 to ₹13,800.

  • Inner (main tri-fold) display replacement:
Costs between KRW 16,57,500 and KRW 18,34,500, roughly ₹1.01 lakh to ₹1.12 lakh.

This means replacing the main screen alone can cost more than ₹1 lakh, which is almost the price of a brand-new iPhone.

Samsung reportedly offers buyers a one-time 50% discount on screen replacement, but even after the discount, the repair remains extremely expensive.

More expensive than Apple’s most premium iPhone

To put things in perspective, Apple’s official screen replacement cost for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is reported to be around ₹38,900. Compared to that, Samsung’s tri-fold display repair cost looks nearly three times higher.

The reason behind this is the complex engineering of tri-fold displays. These panels are far more advanced than standard smartphone or even regular foldable screens. Samsung is currently among the very few companies capable of manufacturing such displays at scale.

Price of the Galaxy Z TriFold

In South Korea, the Galaxy Z TriFold is priced at KRW 3,590,400, which is approximately ₹2.19 lakh. At this price, buyers could easily purchase a high-storage iPhone 17 or even multiple flagship smartphones.

Despite the steep price, reports suggest the phone sold out within minutes of launch, with long queues seen outside Samsung stores in South Korea.

Will the Galaxy Z TriFold launch in India?

As of now, Samsung has not confirmed an India launch for the Galaxy Z TriFold. While the demand in South Korea has been strong, the extremely high price and repair costs could make Samsung cautious about introducing it in price-sensitive markets like India.
