Philips is preparing to make its entry into India's 5G smartphone segment with a new device that combines a high-refresh-rate display, a 64-megapixel camera and stereo speakers. While the company has yet to officially reveal the handset's name, an Amazon landing page has confirmed that the phone will make its debut in India on September 2.
The upcoming smartphone is expected to target buyers looking for a feature-packed 5G device without moving into the premium price segment.
Philips 5G Phone to Launch on September 2
An Amazon microsite for the upcoming Philips smartphone has revealed its launch date as September 2.
The phone has been shown in black, grey and white colour options, although the official names of these variants have not yet been disclosed.
From the images, the smartphone appears to have rounded edges and slim bezels around the display. At the rear, it gets a raised camera island positioned in the top-left corner, housing two vertically arranged camera lenses along with an LED flash.
Philips branding can be seen toward the lower section of the rear panel.
120Hz Display and Up to 8GB RAM
The new Philips smartphone will feature a display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which should provide smoother scrolling and animations compared with conventional 60Hz panels.
The handset is expected to be available with 6GB and 8GB RAM options, while storage choices could include 128GB and 256GB.
The display will use a punch-hole design for the front camera and is expected to have relatively narrow bezels, giving the phone a modern appearance.
64MP AI Camera on the Back
Photography is another key highlight of the upcoming device.
The phone will feature a 64-megapixel AI-powered rear camera, positioned alongside a second camera sensor on the back. On the front, users will reportedly get a 16-megapixel selfie camera.
The front camera should also handle video calls and other selfie-related features.
Stereo Speakers and IP64 Protection
Philips is also adding some features aimed at improving the overall multimedia experience.
The upcoming 5G handset will reportedly come with dual stereo speakers and support for Ultra Max Audio.
Another notable feature is an IP64 rating, offering protection against dust and water splashes. However, this rating does not mean the smartphone is designed to be submerged in water.
Could It Be the Philips S7221?
Although Philips has not officially announced the smartphone's name, an earlier Amazon listing reportedly mentioned the Philips S7221.
It remains to be seen whether this will be the final retail name of the device.
The company is expected to reveal additional information, including the complete specifications, processor, battery capacity and pricing, around the launch.
Philips Looks to Make an Impact in India's 5G Market
With a 120Hz display, 64MP rear camera, 16MP selfie camera, stereo speakers, multiple RAM and storage configurations and an IP64 rating, Philips appears to be focusing on a combination of everyday performance and useful features.
The official price will be crucial in determining how competitive the new smartphone is, particularly in India's crowded 5G segment.
With the launch scheduled for September 2, more details about Philips' first 5G smartphone for the Indian market should become clear soon.
