Pitru Paksha Do's and Don'ts Shraddha has special importance in Pitru Paksha. It is believed that during these days, ancestors come to earth to give blessings. Pitru Paksha Rules : Pitru Paksha is also called Shradh. Pitru Paksha has a very special significance in Sanatan Dharma. According to beliefs, during these 15 days, the ancestors come to earth to bless their family. Tarpan etc. are performed for the peace of their soul. It is said that by performing tarpan etc. in the name of ancestors as per the rituals, the lineage increases and with the blessings of ancestors, a person gets happiness and good fortune. According to the scriptures, some rules should be followed in Pitru Paksha. Otherwise, the ancestors get angry. If you ignore these rules, then the ancestors get angry. What to do and what not to do in Pitru Paksha (Pitru Paksha 2025 Niyam)
1) According to the scriptures, no auspicious work like marriage, housewarming, shop muhurta, starting a new business etc. should be done in Pitru Paksha.
2) Do not lie to anyone during Pitru Paksha or use abusive language. Do not cheat anyone because doing so can make your ancestors angry with you. Also, it is very important to observe celibacy during Pitru Paksha.
3) During Pitru Paksha, consumption of alcohol, betel leaf, brinjal, onion, non-vegetarian food, white sesame, gourd, radish, garlic, stale food, mustard greens, lentils, black salt, sattu etc. is considered prohibited. Doing this makes your ancestors angry.
4) Black sesame seeds are used for offering tarpan to ancestors during Pitru Paksha. Therefore, do not use white sesame seeds for offering tarpan even by mistake. Also, do not use iron utensils for cooking food for Shraddha. Steel utensils should also not be used. If you want, you can eat food in brass utensils.
5) During Pitru Paksha, whatever food is being prepared for the ancestors should be prepared without tasting it and neither should the person who cooks the food eat it first. Also, during Pitru Paksha, if any cow, Brahmin, dog, beggar etc. comes to your door, do not insult them.
6) Afternoon is considered to be the best time for offering water to ancestors. Therefore, do not perform Shradh in Brahma Muhurta. Afternoon is considered to be more auspicious for offering water to your ancestors.
