US lawmakers praised the Prime Minister's leadership, saying, 'PM Modi is the greatest leader after Gandhi'
Washington: Praise has come from the United States for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Indeed, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership is being widely appreciated in the United States as well. Influential US lawmakers have described Prime Minister Modi as a significant leader who is reshaping India's role on the global stage. They say that Washington views PM Modi's leadership as central to the long-term strength of the India-US partnership. Speaking at an event at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington, US House of Representatives member Rich McCormick praised Prime Minister Modi's policies and vision.
McCormick said that PM Modi's vision is completely nationally focused and aligned with India's development goals. He is deeply nationalistic in the truest sense. Rich McCormick (who is also co-chair of the Congressional India Caucus) said, "PM Modi cares about his country just as we care about ours. He wants to bring productivity, expansion, and new technologies to India." He also said that US lawmakers understand PM Modi's vision, which emphasizes building capacity within the country in areas like defense and manufacturing. The Prime Minister wants India's military strength to be developed domestically.
Rich McCormick also acknowledged that there are differences on some issues. Referring to India's purchase of Russian oil at discounted rates, McCormick said, "We don't like it, but they are doing it in their country's interest to expand their economy through cheap energy." However, McCormick also said, "Prime Minister Modi fully understands the importance of coordination with the United States. Ultimately, he knows that we share similar ideological views."
McCormick also said, "In my opinion, PM Modi is the most popular politician in modern history. He's probably the most popular leader since Gandhi." He also mentioned Prime Minister Modi's view that he understands India's diversity. The Prime Minister said that he doesn't trust a politician who has never traveled across India from north to south or from south to north in a general train coach.
Ami Bera, the longest-serving Indian-American member of the US Congress, who was present at the event, said that PM Modi's tenure has been linked to India's global rise. He said, "India is a very important part of our overall Indo-Pacific strategy, and this strategic thinking has remained consistent across multiple US administrations." Ami Bera said that India's rapidly growing domestic market and growing confidence have begun to reshape global economic and strategic equations.
