PM Vishwakarma Scheme: 30 Lakh Artisans Registered, Know What Benefits You Can Get

The PM Vishwakarma scheme has reached an important milestone as its registration target of 30 lakh beneficiaries has been achieved, according to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The scheme, launched in September 2023, is designed to provide comprehensive support to traditional artisans and craftspeople across India.

The government scheme covers 18 traditional trades and provides support ranging from skill training and modern tools to credit assistance and marketing opportunities.

What Is the PM Vishwakarma Scheme?

PM Vishwakarma is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at supporting artisans who depend on traditional skills and family-based occupations.

The scheme has an overall outlay of ₹13,000 crore for the period from FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28. Its objective is to help artisans improve their skills, upgrade their tools, access finance and find better markets for their products and services.

Who Can Benefit?

The scheme covers artisans and craftspeople working in 18 traditional trades. Eligible beneficiaries can receive recognition as well as financial and skill-development support under the programme.

Some of the assistance available under the scheme includes:

  • PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card

  • Skill training

  • Toolkit incentives

  • Credit support

  • Incentives for digital transactions

  • Marketing assistance

Get Training and ₹500 Per Day Stipend

One of the important benefits under PM Vishwakarma is skill development.

Beneficiaries can receive basic training for 5–7 days and advanced training for 15 days or more. During training, participants receive a stipend of ₹500 per day.

The training is intended to help artisans learn modern techniques, use improved tools and understand areas such as digital transactions, marketing and entrepreneurship.

Financial Support Is Also Available

The scheme brings credit support into the same framework so that traditional artisans can get access to finance for strengthening their businesses.

Along with credit, the government has included incentives for digital transactions and marketing support. This can help artisans move beyond traditional local markets and explore wider commercial opportunities.

How Does the Scheme Help Artisans Sell Their Products?

Marketing is another important part of PM Vishwakarma.

The government is connecting beneficiaries with broader market channels, including GeM, e-commerce platforms, trade fairs and exhibitions. Beneficiaries are also being onboarded onto the Udyam Assist Platform.

This is intended to provide artisans with opportunities to reach customers beyond their immediate local markets.

What Happens After Registration?

Registration alone does not mean that every benefit is automatically received. Beneficiaries go through the prescribed registration and verification process before receiving scheme support.

Once the process is completed, eligible artisans receive formal recognition through the PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card. They can then access the applicable components of the scheme according to the programme's rules.

Why Is This Scheme Important?

Many traditional occupations depend on skills passed from one generation to another. However, artisans can face challenges such as outdated equipment, limited access to credit and difficulty reaching larger markets.

PM Vishwakarma combines training, tools, finance, digital incentives and marketing support under one programme.

With the government reporting that its 30-lakh registration target has now been achieved, the scheme is entering another important phase as more registered artisans receive support and connect with wider markets.
