Nominations for local body elections begin, August 31 is the last date
Preparations for municipal elections in Rajasthan are in full swing. The nomination process has already begun. The nomination process for municipal elections began on Thursday (August 27) in nearly half of Rajasthan, including the capital, Jaipur. Candidates have begun collecting nomination papers in the districts where voting will take place in the first phase. The last date for filing nominations here has been set for August 31.
Most nomination centers didn't see much crowd on the first day. A large number of potential candidates arrived only to collect their nomination papers, while only a handful filed their papers. However, candidates don't have much time to file their nominations. With Raksha Bandhan falling on Friday and August 30th being a Sunday, nominations can only be filed on Saturday and Monday. Therefore, a large number of candidates are expected to file their nominations on the last two working days.
BJP and Congress have yet to reveal their cards.
Significantly, the ruling BJP and the main opposition Congress have yet to announce their candidates for any constituency in Rajasthan, including the capital Jaipur. Both parties are expected to release their candidate lists by Friday. Following the release of the lists, crowds at nomination centers may suddenly increase on Saturday and Monday.
