This is how the distance between Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna grew from the beginning

Actually, we're talking about Sanjeev Kumar. Sanjeev Kumar and Rajesh Khanna were members of the Indian Theatre Association. Sanjeev worked in Gujarati dramas, while Rajesh was a part of Hindi plays. Sanjeev was quite popular during his theatre days and was known for his brilliant acting. Sanjeev had become a big name in theatre, while Rajesh was still playing small roles. Once, Rajesh Khanna received the Best Actor award at a college festival for the play "Aur Diya Bujh Jaye." Khanna hosted a party to celebrate his happiness and invited Sanjeev. However, he didn't attend. After two years of continuous theatre, Rajesh entered films, and this further deepened his distance from Sanjeev.

This deepened the distance between Rajesh and Sanjeev

At one point, Rajesh Khanna's girlfriend, Anju Mahendru, became the reason for the distance between the two. It was well known that Rajesh Khanna and Anju were in a long-term relationship. They dated for seven years. When Sanjeev Kapoor and Anju were cast together in the film "Mahanga Sauda," Rajesh Khanna frequently visited the film's set. However, he never tried to talk to Sanjeev, a fact that was not liked by those present. According to a report, Sanjeev and Anju's friendship grew during the filming, which Rajesh Khanna disliked, leading to numerous fights with Anju. Although Rajesh always felt that their friendship had progressed, Anju always denied it and tried to reason with him. However, things did not work out, leading to the end of their relationship, and the two did not speak to each other for 17 years.

Rajesh was insecure about Sanjeev

Despite his irritation with Sanjeev Kumar, Rajesh Khanna appeared with him in G.P. Sippy's film Bandhan. Anju also starred in the film, which was a hit. In an interview, Anju Mahendru confirmed that Rajesh Khanna always felt insecure around Sanjeev Kumar. Writer Sagar Sarhadi also confirmed that Rajesh Khanna was insecure around Sanjeev.

Rajesh Khanna cried on Sanjeev's death

Both actors began their careers together, whether in theater or films. Even after this, they never spoke to each other or visited each other's homes. In 1985, Sanjeev Kumar passed away at the age of 47. This news was heartbreaking for his fans, and even Rajesh couldn't contain himself. Rajesh visited Sanjeev Kumar's home to pay his last respects, and those present there reported tears in the actor's eyes. Rajesh didn't even speak to anyone upon arrival, simply staring intently at Sanjeev.
