Sanju Samson’s Future in Team India Bright, Coach Says He Can Play for Next 6–7 Years

Thiruvananthapuram: Stellar performances in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 have sparked fresh discussions about the long-term future of Sanju Samson in the India national cricket team. Samson’s childhood coach believes the wicketkeeper-batter still has six to seven years of international cricket left and could continue representing India for a long time.

Samson made his international debut in 2015, but despite more than a decade since his debut, he has not played as many matches as many expected. So far, he has featured in 16 ODIs and 61 T20 Internationals, with his total appearances across formats still below the 100-match mark.

Coach Predicts a Century in the Final

Speaking after Samson’s impressive performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup, his childhood coach praised the batter’s form and confidence.

Samson recently played two crucial innings—an unbeaten 97 in the final Super 8 match, which helped India reach the semi-finals, followed by 89 runs in the semi-final to guide the team into the final.

According to his coach, Samson looked in excellent rhythm and mental space, reading bowlers well and playing with authority. He even suggested that Samson might score a century in the final against the New Zealand national cricket team.

“He Can Play for Another 6–7 Years”

In an interview with ANI, Samson’s coach said the batter still has six to seven years of international cricket ahead of him.

He also expressed confidence that Team India could win the tournament and predicted that Samson may play several more World Cups in the future, making this edition far from his last appearance on the global stage.
