The summer heat has begun to scorch Uttar Pradesh, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for heat wave in as many as 35 districts of the state. Districts such as Mathura, Chitrakoot, Varanasi, and Prayagraj are experiencing extreme temperatures, with Prayagraj recording a sweltering 44.3°C — the highest so far this season.
According to the IMD, the heat wave is expected to intensify in the coming days, making life increasingly difficult for residents. Both day and night temperatures are showing a sharp rise, prompting the IMD to issue warm night alerts for several areas in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
🔥 Heat Wave Alert in Full Swing
The IMD has raised a yellow alert in 35 districts and an orange alert in several eastern districts. Cities like Jaunpur, Varanasi, Ballia, Mau, Azamgarh, and Ambedkar Nagar have been issued an orange warning due to the persistent heatwave. Meanwhile, Mathura, Jhansi, Kanpur, Banda, and Chitrakoot are among the areas under yellow alert.
This means that these districts will experience daytime temperatures above 40°C, with little relief expected even after sunset.

⏳ What to Expect in the Coming Days?
Meteorologists predict a further 3°C to 5°C increase in daytime highs across several districts. Night temperatures may also climb by around 3°C, worsening the conditions for vulnerable populations including children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
However, some respite might arrive after April 24, as a fresh western disturbance is expected to impact the Himalayan region. This system may result in a slight dip in minimum temperatures and potential cloud cover in the northern plains.
🥵 Prayagraj Tops the Heat List
Among all districts, Prayagraj stands out as the hottest, with Tuesday’s maximum temperature touching 44.3°C. Other regions such as Kanpur, Hamirpur, and Varanasi are not far behind, experiencing relentless heat that has disrupted daily life.
The IMD has advised people to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, keep themselves hydrated, and avoid strenuous physical activity during the day.
