Yashasvi Jaiswal has impressed everyone with his consistent performances at the top of the order, especially in the ongoing Test series against England. Though he hasn’t scored another century after his ton in the Leeds Test, his impactful innings have kept India in strong positions throughout the series. Now, his coach Jwala Singh has stirred up a debate with a bold claim.
"Yashasvi and Sehwag Are Ahead of Rohit Sharma"
Speaking on a podcast during the Oval Test, Jwala Singh praised Jaiswal’s performance and made a major statement. He said:
“After Sehwag, Yashasvi is India’s best opener. Not even Rohit Sharma has achieved what Yashasvi has this early.”
Jwala emphasized that openers face the toughest bowling and are always under pressure to provide solid starts. He pointed to Yashasvi’s temperament and ability to set the tone for India’s innings, saying, “Despite facing the best bowlers in testing conditions, he’s managed to stay consistent.”
Fastest to 2000 Runs: Yashasvi in Elite Company
Yashasvi Jaiswal reached 2000 Test runs in just 40 innings during the Edgbaston Test, becoming one of the fastest Indians to do so. He now shares this record with legends like Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid, surpassing greats like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
Jaiswal’s Ongoing England Tour Stats
So far in the England Test series, the young opener has scored 293 runs in 9 innings, including a century and two half-centuries. Across his career, in 24 Test matches, he has amassed 2153 runs in 46 innings, featuring 5 centuries and 13 fifties—a remarkable start to a young Test career.
A Technical Issue but Huge Potential
Coach Jwala Singh admitted that Yashasvi is currently facing a “slight technical issue” but expressed full confidence that he will bounce back stronger:
“Once he corrects that, it won’t be easy to get him out.”
