Shubman Gill: Rohit and Kohli will play in the 2027 World Cup... Captain Shubman Gill made a big statement

Shubman Gill: The biggest question among Indian cricket fans right now is whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be part of the team for the 2027 World Cup. Rohit Sharma was recently removed from the captaincy of Team India's ODI team and Shubman Gill has been appointed in his place. Since Gill's appointment as captain, questions have been raised about whether the experienced player is still part of the team's roadmap. And the answer to this question has been provided by Team India's new captain, Shubman Gill.

Gill said this about Rohit-Kohli

New ODI captain Shubman Gill may not have said much, but he made it clear that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are important parts of his plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Gill made this statement during a media interaction a day before the second Test between India and West Indies in Delhi. Gill said, "Absolutely. The experience and achievements of these two players are second to none. They have won countless matches for India, and their records are very difficult to match. There are very few players in the world who possess so much talent, skill, and experience. Therefore, we are definitely including them in our future plans."

Gill is in command

Shubman Gill revealed that he was informed of the ODI team captaincy shortly before the official announcement. He said, "The formal announcement was made after the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, but I learned about it a little earlier. It is a huge honor for me to captain India." He added, "I am very excited to captain my country's ODI team. The last few months have been very special and exciting for me, but now I want to focus on the future. I will try to live in the present and not dwell on what I or the teams has achieved so far. My goal is to move forward and overcome whatever challenges the coming months bring."

It's worth noting that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli currently only play ODIs for India, having already retired from Test and T20 cricket. Both players haven't played a match since IPL 2025. However, they are scheduled to return to the field during the ODI series against Australia later this month.
