Skoda is preparing to give its popular Slavia sedan its first major update since its launch in India. The company has released a new teaser of the upcoming Slavia Facelift, giving enthusiasts a glimpse of several design and feature changes.
The Slavia competes with popular sedans such as the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Unlike a minor cosmetic update, the facelift is expected to bring noticeable changes to the exterior as well as improvements inside the cabin.
Here are the biggest changes revealed or hinted at so far.
1. Sharper LED Taillights
The rear of the Slavia Facelift is expected to feature redesigned LED taillights.
While the overall shape of the lamps appears similar to the outgoing model, their internal lighting pattern has been revised. The new design looks sharper and more geometric, giving the sedan a more modern appearance.
2. More Chrome at the Rear
Another noticeable change is the revised chrome treatment around the rear window.
The facelift appears to get a larger chrome border, adding a more premium touch to the rear profile of the sedan.
3. New Dual-Tone Alloy Wheels
Skoda is also expected to introduce a fresh set of alloy wheels with the facelift.
The new wheels feature a multi-spoke design and dual-tone finish, which should give the Slavia a sportier appearance. The teaser also hints at a piano-black finish for the front grille.
4. Updated Front-End Styling
The front of the Slavia is expected to receive more substantial changes.
The facelift could feature redesigned headlamps and revised fog-lamp housings. There are also indications that the grille could receive new lighting elements inspired by the recently updated Kushaq.
These changes could give the Slavia a more distinctive look while retaining the basic design identity of the current sedan.
5. Bigger Digital Instrument Cluster
Inside the cabin, Skoda is not expected to completely redesign the dashboard. Instead, the company could focus on technology and material upgrades.
One of the expected additions is a larger 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. New seat upholstery and improved materials could also give the cabin a more premium feel.
It is not yet clear whether features such as the rear-seat massage function available on the updated Kushaq will also make their way into the Slavia.
Engines Likely to Remain Unchanged
The facelift is not expected to bring major changes to the engine lineup.
The Slavia is likely to continue with its existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol engines. However, the smaller 1.0-litre engine could receive an important transmission upgrade.
Reports suggest that Skoda may introduce an 8-speed automatic gearbox with the 1.0-litre engine, replacing the current 6-speed automatic.
Launch and Price Details
Skoda is revealing information about the new Slavia gradually ahead of its launch. The facelift is scheduled to launch on August 18, when the company is expected to reveal complete details about its variants, features and pricing.
Until then, some of the information remains based on what has been shown in the teasers and what is expected from the updated sedan.
If the changes arrive as anticipated, the Slavia Facelift could offer a fresher design and more technology while retaining the engines and driving character that have made the sedan a strong competitor in its segment.
