Navdeep Singh, the celebrated para athlete from Panipat, Haryana, who won gold in the men’s javelin throw F41 category at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, has been dealt a shocking blow. The International Paralympic Committee has excluded his event from the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, putting his future participation and career in jeopardy.
Alongside Navdeep, silver medalist Yogesh Kathuniya’s discus throw F56 event has also been removed from the list of 560 medal events announced recently. Both athletes have expressed deep disappointment over the decision, which threatens to sideline many promising Indian para athletes.
Navdeep remains focused on the upcoming World Championship while hoping for a reversal of the decision. Yogesh has urged the Paralympic Committee of India to appeal, emphasizing the importance of these events for athletes and the growing enthusiasm for Paralympic sports in India.
The exclusion of these events raises concerns about the career trajectory of top athletes and highlights the need for support as the nation’s Paralympic movement gains momentum.
