Steve Smith to Play in Pakistan for the First Time, Joins PSL Team Sialkot Stallions

Australian batting legend Steve Smith is set to make his Pakistan debut as he prepares to feature in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for the first time in his career. Although Smith was not selected for Australia’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, the veteran batter will now be seen returning to the shortest format through the PSL.

Steve Smith has signed with new PSL franchise Sialkot Stallions, securing a direct entry into the squad. With new teams being introduced this season, the PSL management has allowed them to sign a few players directly before the auction to build a strong core.

Smith Set for PSL Debut

In recent years, Steve Smith’s presence in T20 cricket has reduced. He is no longer a regular in Australia’s T20 setup and has also been absent from the IPL. Smith has already retired from ODI cricket, but his batting form suggests he still has plenty to offer in the T20 format.

Despite missing out on the T20 World Cup squad, Smith’s move to the PSL gives him a fresh platform to showcase his skills in competitive franchise cricket.

Impressive Big Bash League Form

Steve Smith was in sensational form during the Big Bash League (BBL) while playing for the Sydney Sixers. In just six matches, he scored 299 runs at an outstanding average of 59.8, with a strike rate of 167.97, well above his career T20 strike rate.

His BBL campaign included two half-centuries and a century, yet he was still overlooked for World Cup selection. Overall, Smith has scored 6,242 runs in 272 T20 matches, averaging over 32, with five centuries to his name.

A New League Added to His Career

The PSL will be the only major T20 league Steve Smith has not previously played in, making this move particularly special. Over the years, he has featured in almost every major league, including:

  • Big Bash League (BBL)

  • Indian Premier League (IPL)

  • The Hundred

  • Major League Cricket (USA)

  • Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)

  • Caribbean Premier League (CPL)

  • T20 Blast

Smith has played the most league cricket in India, appearing in 103 IPL matches for four different franchises.

With an illustrious career that includes 17,675 international runs, 49 centuries, World Cup, T20 World Cup, WTC, and Ashes titles, all eyes will now be on how Steve Smith adapts to conditions in Pakistan and performs in PSL 2026.
