Tesla India Inc Siddharth Jain Model Y Elon Musk: Received the first Tesla after the factory visit in 2017, dream comes true. Siddharth Jain, Executive Director of Inox Group, recently took delivery of “India Inc”'s first Tesla car in India. Sharing a picture on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “This one's for you @ElonMusk!!! I am beyond thrilled to receive India Inc's 1st @Tesla! I have been waiting for this precious moment ever since I visited the Tesla Fremont factory in 2017! Dreams do come true!” To this post, Elon Musk gave a brief but encouraging reply – “Congrats!”

Tesla officially enters India

Tesla officially launched its India debut in July 2025 with the Model Y. Prices start at ₹60 lakh. In August, a second 8,200-square-foot showroom opened in Delhi's Aerocity, its first in the National Capital Region.

There are two variants available in India:

• Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive – ₹60.1 Lakh($70,000)
• Model Y Long-Range – ₹67.8 Lakh ($79,000)

Why are prices higher in India?

Tesla prices in India are significantly higher than in the US, China, and Germany. For example:

• US: ₹38.6 lakh ($44,990)
• China: ₹30.5 lakh ($36,700)
• Germany: ₹46 lakh ($53,700)

The main reason for this difference is the heavy import duty levied in India.

Who is the first customer?

While Siddharth Jain is the first customer of “India Inc”, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik is the first Indian citizen to buy the Model Y.
