The wife frequently gets angry and forgets...this could be a sign of ADHD

High-Functioning ADHD: If your wife gets angry over seemingly trivial matters, forgets things, or doesn't concentrate, these could be signs of high-functioning ADHD, not just inattention. Learn about the symptoms and remedies for this disorder.

Women Health: Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) is often considered a problem of children or men. However, it is not given due attention in women. Mental health experts say that ADHD is also found in women, but the symptoms are slightly different. Psychiatrist Professor Ahmed Hankir said that ADHD in women is often misunderstood or misdiagnosed. He has listed five such signs which may seem very normal, but can point towards 'high-functioning ADHD'.

Being more sensitive to criticism and rejection

Many women with ADHD experience Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria, meaning that negative opinions, rejection, or even minor criticism can deeply hurt them. This sensitivity can often lead to them being mistaken for having borderline personality disorder.

Difficulty controlling emotions

These women often struggle to manage their emotions, such as anger, frustration, or sadness. This isn't their fault, but rather a neurological factor. These emotional fluctuations are often viewed by society as drama or overreaction.

Frequent disorganization and confusion

Leaving things scattered around the home or workplace or failing to complete tasks on time may indicate executive dysfunction, not "laziness." However, in many patriarchal societies, such women are labeled "careless."

Masking

Many women with ADHD try to hide their symptoms in order to fit in. They overwork themselves, exhausting themselves trying to appear perfect, which gradually leads to mental fatigue and stress.

Hyper-focus and self-exhaustion

Along with distractibility, many women with ADHD suffer from hyper-focus. This means they become very hard on themselves—working late, striving for perfection, and ultimately feeling exhausted or burned out.

How many types of ADHD are there?

  • Inattentive Type: Lack of attention and focus, forgetting things.
  • Hyperactive/Impulsive Type: Restless, acting without thinking.
  • Combined Type: A mixture of both types of symptoms.

What do experts say?

Women are more likely to have Inattentive Type ADHD, which doesn't outwardly appear as hyperactivity. Therefore, they often don't receive timely diagnosis or treatment.

Alia Bhatt also has ADHD

Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt also suffers from ADHD. She revealed that she has had distractibility issues since childhood, and a recent psychiatric examination revealed it. She isn't very social and has trouble concentrating. However, she is trying to manage it without medication
