Former New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee has been appointed as the new bowling coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2026. With IPL title wins for both Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings during his playing career, Southee’s experience is expected to significantly strengthen KKR’s bowling unit in the upcoming season.

Before taking up this coaching role, Southee was part of KKR as a player. He represented the franchise in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 IPL seasons. This time, he returns to the team with the responsibility of shaping and guiding their bowling attack.
Multiple support staff changes at KKR
After a disappointing previous season, KKR has introduced several changes to its support staff. Southee is the third major addition, following the appointment of Abhishek Nayar as head coach and Shane Watson as assistant coach. The franchise hopes this refreshed setup will deliver stronger performances in IPL 2026.

Speaking about his new role, Tim Southee said that returning to KKR feels like coming home. He expressed excitement about the opportunity and aims to contribute to the team’s success next season.
Tim Southee’s international career

After retiring from international cricket in 2015, he transitioned into coaching and later served as a bowling coach for the England cricket team.
