Tired After a Long Day? Try This Simple Foot Soak With 4 Ingredients for a Relaxing Evening Routine

After a hectic day, many people look for simple ways to relax their body and prepare for a good night's sleep. While detox drinks and herbal remedies are often promoted for cleansing the body, you don't necessarily need complicated routines for some evening self-care.

Celebrity nutritionist Shweta Shah has shared a simple foot-soak routine that involves lukewarm water, Epsom salt, apple cider vinegar, rosemary and ginger. The practice can help soothe tired feet and create a calming end-of-day ritual.

However, it is important to note that there is no strong scientific evidence that soaking your feet removes toxins from the body. Your liver and kidneys are primarily responsible for processing and eliminating waste. A foot soak can still be useful for relaxation and comfort.

What do you need for the foot soak?

To prepare the soak, you will need:

  • Lukewarm water, enough to comfortably cover your feet

  • 1 tablespoon Epsom salt

  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

  • A few rosemary leaves

  • 1 teaspoon chopped or grated ginger

Make sure the water is comfortably warm rather than very hot, particularly if you have sensitive skin.

Soak your feet for 15–20 minutes

Once the ingredients are added to the water, place your feet in the soak and relax for around 15 to 20 minutes.

Use this time to slow down, take a few deep breaths and unwind after a busy day. The warmth of the water itself can help create a soothing and relaxing experience.

Gently brush your feet afterward

After soaking, you can gently brush or massage your feet. Avoid vigorous scrubbing, particularly if you have dry, cracked or sensitive skin.

A gentle massage can make the routine feel more relaxing and may temporarily improve the sensation of tired or heavy feet.

What are the potential benefits?

A warm foot soak may offer several simple comfort benefits:

  • Helps relax tired feet

  • Provides a calming evening ritual

  • May help you unwind before bedtime

  • Can temporarily ease the feeling of heaviness in the feet

  • Gives you some dedicated time for self-care

The main benefit is relaxation rather than "detoxification." There is currently no reliable evidence that ingredients added to a foot bath can pull toxins out of the body through the feet.

Make it part of your evening routine

If you enjoy warm foot soaks, you can include one in your nighttime routine. Pair it with comfortable lighting, calming music or a few minutes of deep breathing to make the experience more relaxing.

For overall health and natural waste removal, however, focus on adequate hydration, a balanced diet, regular physical activity, sufficient sleep and limiting alcohol and highly processed foods.
