Toyota Hyrider Gains Popularity in India: Strong Mileage and Growing Sales

The Toyota Hyrider, Toyota Kirloskar Motor's first mid-size SUV launched in India in 2022, is steadily gaining traction in the market. This sporty SUV, powered by a hybrid petrol engine, recorded strong sales of 9,100 units in August 2025. Essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Grand Vitara, the Hyrider has sold 160,634 units in India as of August 2025.

Sales growth has been impressive: the first 50,000 units were sold in 15 months, the next 50,000 in just 11 months, surpassing 100,000 units. By June 2025, 100,500 units had been sold, and the next 60,000 units were sold in 10 months, reflecting the SUV’s growing demand and increasing share in Toyota India's passenger vehicle sales.

Price and Variants

The Toyota Hyrider combines a striking design with a feature-rich interior. It offers a spacious cabin with ergonomic seating and is available in petrol and hybrid variants, both offering excellent fuel efficiency and driving comfort. Prices range from ₹12.65 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model to ₹20.19 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top variant. The Hyrider is offered in a total of 18 variants.

Mileage

The ARAI-certified mileage varies based on the variant:

  • Hybrid variant: up to 27.97 kmpl

  • CNG variant: around 26.6 km/kg

  • Petrol variant: between 19.20 kmpl and 21.12 kmpl, depending on the transmission
