The Indian Under-19 team has reached Zimbabwe for the upcoming ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Team India will begin its campaign on January 15 against the United States, but before that, it will play warm-up matches starting January 10. Amid all this, one name is firmly in the spotlight — Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi is coming into the tournament in red-hot form. During the recent tour of South Africa, he smashed boundaries at will and played a key role in India’s 3–0 ODI series victory. Now, as the World Cup approaches, he has set himself a massive personal challenge known as Mission 607.
What is Mission 607?
Mission 607 refers to the target Vaibhav Suryavanshi needs to achieve if he wants to become the highest run-scorer in the history of the Under-19 World Cup.
Currently, the record is held by Eoin Morgan, who scored 606 runs across two editions of the Under-19 World Cup in 2004 and 2006 while representing Ireland. Morgan’s tally included two centuries and three half-centuries.
To break this long-standing record, Vaibhav Suryavanshi will need to score at least 607 runs in the tournament.
Why is this record so special?
Breaking this record is extremely challenging because players are allowed to play the Under-19 World Cup only once. Unlike Eoin Morgan, who featured in two editions, Vaibhav has just a single tournament to achieve the milestone.
However, considering his current form, aggressive batting style, and confidence, cricket experts believe Suryavanshi has the potential to score heavily and put the record under serious threat.
When will Vaibhav Suryavanshi take the field?
Before the main tournament begins, India will play two warm-up matches:
-
January 10: Warm-up match vs Scotland
-
Another warm-up match against England
India’s group-stage schedule:
-
January 15: India vs United States
-
January 17: India vs Bangladesh
-
January 24: Third group-stage match
The semi-finals are scheduled for February 3 and 4, while the final will be played on February 6.
What to expect
If Vaibhav Suryavanshi finds consistency across the group stage and knockout matches, Mission 607 could turn into one of the biggest talking points of the tournament. While the target is tough, his recent performances suggest that he is ready to take on the challenge.
