In this sequence, the Union Home Ministry has instructed the states to conduct mock drills. After this, the police administration in Sambhal, UP is on alert and the district administration has issued an advisory for the public.
What advisory did the Sambhal administration issue for the general public?
Keep calm and avoid rumours-
Don't panic: Understand the gravity of the situation, but stay calm. Panic increases the chances of making wrong decisions.
Trust official information: Trust only official information issued by the government and the district administration. Do not pay heed to or spread rumours coming from social media or other unconfirmed sources.
Listen to the news carefully: Keep getting the latest and verified information through radio, television or official online portals.
Take shelter in safe places-
Stay indoors: Stay indoors unless told to evacuate. Stay away from windows and doors.
Identify bunkers or safe spaces: If there is a bunker or strong underground space available near you, take shelter there if needed.
Use an inner room: If a bunker is not available, stay in an inner room of the house, which has less contact with external walls and windows. Sit on the floor and stay away from walls.
Keep the necessary supplies ready-
Create an emergency kit: Prepare an emergency kit, which should include water bottles (per person for at least three days), dry food (biscuits, cereals, canned food, etc.), first aid kit (bandages, antiseptic, painkillers, etc.), battery-operated radio and extra batteries, flashlight and extra batteries, whistle, knife, matches or lighter (in a secure compartment), cash (small notes), important documents (copies of identity card, medical records, etc. – in a waterproof bag), blankets or warm clothes, sanitizer and mask.
Stock up on food and water: Stock up on enough food and water for a few days.
Medicines: If you take any regular medicines, ensure you have adequate stock of them.
Caution regarding electricity and gas-
Turn off electrical appliances: If there is a risk of bombing or other danger, turn off all electrical appliances.
Turn off gas connections: If there is a gas leak or danger, turn off the main gas valve.
Security and Vigilance-
Report suspicious activities: If you see any suspicious person or activity, immediately inform the local police or administration.
Stay away from unfamiliar objects: Do not touch any unclaimed object. Report it immediately to the security agencies.
Keep the lights dim at night: If there is a blackout in your area, use less lights in the houses so that there is less visibility from outside. Put curtains or thick cloth on the windows.
Support your neighbors and community:
Help your neighbors: Take care of and help the elderly, especially children and people in need.
Participate in community efforts: If there are community efforts being made in your area for safety or assistance, actively participate in them.
Avoid travelling-
Avoid non-essential travel: Avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary. Roads may be crowded and dangerous.
If you have to travel, be cautious: If travelling is unavoidable, know your route, use safe routes and be cautious.
Remember: War is an extremely serious situation. Only patience, restraint and awareness can help keep you and your loved ones safe. Follow the instructions issued by the administration and cooperate with each other.
