WhatsApp is the most widely used messaging app in the world. Consequently, the company regularly releases new updates to ensure user safety. WhatsApp has now introduced new features to further strengthen user privacy and security. These new features are intended to reduce the risk of user accounts being hacked and protect users from online scams.
Three new security features of WhatsApp
Passkey Feature Update: Previously, users had the option to add a single passkey to their WhatsApp account. Now, users can add multiple passkeys. This will allow users who use WhatsApp on multiple devices to log in using a passkey. Passkeys allow users to log in using multiple fingerprints, face unlock, or phone screen locks, reducing the risk of their passwords or OTPs being stolen.
Updates to the 2FA feature: WhatsApp has also made changes to two-factor authentication (2FA). Until now, users had the option to set a 6-digit PIN within WhatsApp. The update will allow users to create strong passwords with numbers, letters, and special characters. This will make it more difficult for hackers to breach their accounts.
Unknown Caller Details: WhatsApp's new update addresses unknown calls. If a user receives a call from an unknown number, WhatsApp will display the number along with additional information. This information includes the country the number is from and whether the caller is connected to any groups. This will also help users determine whether the caller is trustworthy. This can help users avoid scams.
How to enable Passkeys in WhatsApp?
Enabling a passkey in WhatsApp's Android app is very easy. First, open WhatsApp's Settings menu. Go to the Accounts option and tap Passkeys. After that, go to Create Passkey and enable it. If you use WhatsApp on an iPhone, you'll find the option to enable a passkey in the Passkeys option under Account in the Settings section.
These three new WhatsApp features will improve user security within the messaging app. WhatsApp is rolling out these features gradually. So, you may experience some of these features first, while others may require a little longer. However, all three features should be available to all WhatsApp users within a day or two.
