WI vs SL Women’s T20I: West Indies Bowled Out for 49 but Escape Defeat as Rain Washes Out Match

The Sri Lanka Women tour of the Caribbean continues to throw up dramatic moments. After clinching the three-match ODI series 2–1, Sri Lanka produced a stunning bowling display in the opening Women’s T20I, dismissing West Indies Women for just 49 runs.

Despite this collapse, the hosts avoided defeat as rain forced the match to be abandoned. The first T20 International was played in St. George's, where weather ultimately had the final say.

West Indies batting crumbles completely

Batting first, the West Indies women got off to a disastrous start and never found momentum. The Caribbean side failed to last the full 20 overs and were bowled out in just 13.3 overs, falling short of even the 50-run mark.

Not a single batter reached double figures. Kayna Joseph was the top scorer with just 7 runs, while captain Hayley Matthews managed only 6. The Sri Lankan bowlers exploited the conditions perfectly, dismantling the home side with discipline and accuracy.

Sri Lankan bowlers dominate

Sri Lanka used five bowlers in the innings, and four of them picked up wickets. Kavisha Dilhari led the attack with three wickets, while three other bowlers chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring constant pressure on the West Indies batting lineup.

How West Indies avoided defeat

Chasing a modest target of 50, Sri Lanka began their reply, but rain intervened early. Only 7 runs were scored in 2.5 overs before play was halted due to bad weather. With no further play possible, the match was abandoned, sparing the West Indies from an embarrassing defeat despite their batting collapse.
