RCB, one of the most popular IPL franchises, won its first title last season. Now, Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla is showing interest in purchasing the RCB franchise.

Adar Poonawalla to buy RCB franchise: Royal Challengers Bangalore won its first title in the Indian Premier League 2025. The league was started in 2008 and this franchise got the trophy last season i.e. after 17 years. Shortly after becoming the IPL champion, news started coming that RCB's franchise is going to be sold. The ownership of this franchise is with the liquor manufacturing company Diageo. According to media reports, Diageo wants to sell the franchise by March 31 this year. Now Serum Institute's CEO Adar Poonawalla has made a big tweet regarding buying RCB's franchise.

Adar Poonawalla tweeted about the RCB franchise.

Adar Poonawalla tweeted on his former account about buying the RCB franchise, writing, "In the next few months, I will be placing a strong and competitive bid for RCB, one of the best teams in the IPL." Even though RCB has only won the IPL once, they have a strong fan base. RCB rivals five-time IPL champions like the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in terms of fan base.

Virat Kohli is the biggest name in RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore signed Virat Kohli in the inaugural IPL season in 2008. As Virat's stature grew in the cricketing world, RCB's fan following also grew because of him. Virat Kohli is currently the biggest name in RCB and has captained them for a long time. Although he failed to lead Bangalore to a title win, Kohli played a major role in RCB's victory last season when they defeated Punjab Kings to win the title. Virat finished third in the list of highest run-scorers in IPL 2025, scoring a total of 657 runs in 15 matches, including eight half-centuries.
