Will Pakistan’s Test Captain Also Be Replaced? Mohammad Amir Slams PCB, Says ‘At Least Let One Series Go…’

Pakistan cricket is once again in the middle of turbulence. After major captaincy changes in the white-ball formats, former fast bowler Mohammad Amir has expressed his strong displeasure over the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) recent decisions.

Amir believes that Mohammad Rizwan has been treated unfairly by the board and that Pakistan cricket is suffering from a lack of patience and consistency.

"Rizwan Was Not a Bad Captain" — Mohammad Amir

Speaking about Rizwan’s removal from the ODI captaincy, Amir said, “Yes, Pakistan lost a series against the West Indies under Rizwan’s leadership, but let’s not forget — he led Pakistan to historic ODI series wins in Australia and South Africa. Many captains have come and gone, but winning in those countries has always been a distant dream. Rizwan did that.”

Amir’s comments clearly reflect his disappointment with the board’s decision, suggesting that Rizwan deserved more time to prove himself.

"This Thinking Needs to Change"

The former left-arm pacer didn’t hold back while criticizing the mindset within Pakistan cricket. Amir said, “The biggest problem with our cricket is impatience. If a player performs well in one or two matches, people start calling him the next Wasim Akram or Inzamam-ul-Haq. If someone bowls at 145 km/h, they say he’s the new Shoaib Akhtar. This mentality has to change.”

Amir believes such unrealistic expectations and constant changes prevent Pakistan from achieving long-term stability.

"Removing Rizwan Was a Hasty Decision"

Amir added that frequent chopping and changing have hurt Pakistan cricket more than anything else. “You can’t build captains like this — it takes at least two to three years for a leader to develop,” he said.
Calling the PCB’s move “hasty,” Amir questioned the logic behind removing Rizwan so quickly. “We don’t even know who’s making these decisions,” he remarked.

"Even Test Captain Shan Masood Isn’t Safe"

Amir also hinted that the Test captaincy might soon change too. “Right now, Shan Masood is also being run series by series. Let one bad series happen — and the PCB will remove him too. You’ll see it yourself,” Amir warned.
