In a surprising turn of events, star batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal has requested permission to leave the Mumbai Ranji team. Jaiswal, who rose from humble beginnings to become a key player, has reportedly sought a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) citing personal reasons.
A Move to Goa on the Cards?
According to media reports, Jaiswal is keen to switch to the Goa Ranji team for the upcoming domestic season. If the move goes through, he would follow in the footsteps of players like Arjun Tendulkar and Prithvi Shaw, who also left Mumbai to play for Goa. There are speculations that Jaiswal could even be named captain of the Goa team, although no official confirmation has been made yet. However, it is confirmed that he has formally requested an NOC from the MCA via email.
Mumbai’s Role in Jaiswal’s Rise
Jaiswal made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2019 against Chhattisgarh. Though his initial performance was unremarkable, he soon established himself as a prolific run-scorer. The left-handed batsman has amassed 3,712 runs in 36 first-class matches at an impressive average of over 60, including 13 centuries and 12 half-centuries. Mumbai played a crucial role in his development, providing him with opportunities at the top order. Despite this, Jaiswal now appears ready to move on from the team that nurtured his career.
Struggles in IPL 2025
Currently playing for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, Jaiswal has had a rough start to the season. In three matches, he has struggled to score runs, managing just 1 run against Hyderabad, 29 against Kolkata Knight Riders, and 4 against Chennai Super Kings. His form in the tournament remains a concern as he navigates this potential transition in domestic cricket.
