Liver-related problems are becoming increasingly common today. Conditions such as fatty liver, alcoholic fatty liver, hepatitis, and cirrhosis affect a large number of people. If not addressed on time, liver issues can turn serious. Poor lifestyle habits like excessive consumption of unhealthy food, alcohol intake, weight gain, lack of physical activity, and stress are among the major causes. In some cases, liver disorders may also be linked to genetics, viral infections, diabetes, certain medications, or exposure to harmful chemicals.
Along with a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, yoga can play an important role in supporting liver health. According to yoga expert Raikotha, a few simple daily exercises can help improve circulation, stimulate internal organs, and support liver function. These movements take only a few minutes and can be easily done at home.
First activity
Raise one arm and gently press the fingers of your opposite hand into the armpit area. Rotate the skin in a circular motion, first clockwise and then anticlockwise. Repeat the same movement on the other armpit. This exercise can be done two to three times on each side.
Second activity
Using one hand, gently but quickly pat the armpit of the opposite arm. Repeat this on both sides. This movement helps improve blood circulation in the area and activates nearby lymphatic points.
Third activity
Lift one arm upward and place the palm of the other hand in the center of the armpit. Bend the raised arm at the elbow and move it up and down forcefully. Lower the arm and repeat the movement. Perform this exercise on both sides.
Fourth activity
Extend both arms forward and make fists. Bend your elbows and bring your fists toward your chest. Then, move your hands up and down forcefully. This movement helps activate the upper body and improves overall circulation.
Fifth activity
Extend both arms forward again and make fists. Pull your hands back toward your chest and then release them forward forcefully. Perform this movement quickly and rhythmically. While doing all these exercises, maintain steady and mindful breathing.
Important note
To keep your liver healthy, it is essential to avoid alcohol and limit the intake of fatty and processed foods. Include liver-friendly habits such as drinking lukewarm water in the morning, eating a balanced diet, and exercising regularly. Yoga should be practiced as a supportive lifestyle habit and not as a replacement for medical treatment. If you have an existing liver condition, consult a doctor before starting any new exercise routine.
