YouTube Suffers Global Outage for Hours, Services Now Fully Restored

The popular video-sharing platform YouTube faced a major global outage on Wednesday morning (February 18), leaving millions of users unable to watch videos for several hours. Users across multiple countries, including India, reported widespread disruptions before services were gradually restored.

During the outage, users encountered error messages such as “Something went wrong” while trying to access videos on both the YouTube app and website. The sudden disruption triggered a flood of complaints on social media, with #YouTubeDown quickly trending on X.

Acknowledging the issue, the YouTube team posted an update saying that they were aware of the problem and actively working to resolve it. Shortly afterward, the company confirmed that the service had been restored and was functioning normally.

According to outage tracking platform Downdetector, the scale of the disruption was significant. In the United States alone, over 2.8 lakh users reported issues, while in India more than 18,000 complaints were logged. Data showed that around 74 percent of Indian users faced problems running the app, 16 percent experienced video streaming issues, and 10 percent were unable to open the website.

The outage was not limited to a single region, highlighting the global dependence on the platform for entertainment, information, and work-related content. Although YouTube did not immediately disclose the technical reason behind the disruption, the swift restoration helped ease user concerns.
