Assam Police have registered a murder case against singer Zubeen Garg’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, in connection with the star’s sudden death in Singapore. Along with Sharma, Shyamkanu Mahanta, the organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF), has also been named in the case. Both were arrested on Wednesday.

The singer, who had traveled to Singapore to participate in the festival organized by Mahanta, tragically passed away on September 19, just a day before the event was scheduled to begin. Early reports suggested Zubeen died during a scuba diving session, but the post-mortem report later confirmed drowning as the cause of death, raising suspicions of foul play.

The Assam Police have so far arrested four people in connection with the case, while several others remain under questioning. Zubeen’s wife, Saikia Garg, had earlier expressed doubts about his manager, a statement that added weight to the investigation and prompted the CID to escalate charges.

Initially booked under sections 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) and 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 2023, the case was later updated to include Section 103 for murder after fresh developments.

Head of the investigation team, M.P. Gupta, confirmed that a police delegation is ready to travel to Singapore to coordinate with local authorities and conduct further inquiry. “We are looking into every aspect of Zubeen’s death. All formalities have been completed with the Singapore government, and our team is prepared to visit soon,” Gupta stated.

Zubeen’s death has sent shockwaves across Assam and the Northeast, with more than 60 FIRs filed by fans and well-wishers after the tragedy. The case, now carrying a murder charge, continues to intensify as authorities dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s final days.
