Washington DC shooting: Suspect fired a handgun
The shooting occurred Wednesday afternoon while National Guard members were on high-visibility patrol near 17th Street and I Street NW. Police said the gunman emerged from a corner, raised a handgun, and fired directly at the two soldiers. Other Guard members nearby immediately returned fire. Mayor Muriel Bowser and FBI Director Kash Patel said both soldiers were in critical condition. People at the scene were administering CPR to an injured soldier. Photos shared on social media showed the suspect being led away in handcuffs and on a stretcher after being injured.

Trump deployed more guards
