Pakistan Nuclear Test News: US President Donald Trump has stated that countries like China, Russia, North Korea, and Pakistan are conducting underground nuclear tests. Dawn reported that Islamabad had previously withheld any response to avoid angering Trump.
Islamabad: Pakistan on Friday said it has not conducted any nuclear tests since May 1998. It rejected India's allegations of clandestine nuclear activities as "baseless and malicious." Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi, responding to a question from Dawn, said, "Pakistan's last nuclear tests were conducted in May 1998. Our position on nuclear testing is well-established and consistent."
Pakistan said it has maintained a moratorium on nuclear tests since its last tests, conducted in response to India's nuclear tests. The Dawn report said that although Pakistan has not signed the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, it has been given the flexibility to resume testing if its security environment deteriorates, especially with respect to India.
Pakistan denies India's allegations on nuclear tests
Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Andrabi said, "Pakistan has consistently supported UN General Assembly resolutions calling for a comprehensive ban on nuclear testing. In contrast, India's absence from these resolutions reflects its unclear and dubious intentions regarding future nuclear tests." It should be noted that US President Donald Trump was the first to say that countries like China, Russia, North Korea, and Pakistan were conducting underground nuclear tests. Dawn reported that Islamabad had previously withheld any response to avoid angering Donald Trump.
But on Friday, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry broke its silence on Donald Trump's allegations, citing a statement issued by the Indian Foreign Ministry. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "Clandestine and illegal nuclear activities are consistent with Pakistan's history, which has focused on smuggling, export control violations, clandestine partnerships, the A.Q. Khan network, and nuclear proliferation for decades. India has always drawn the international community's attention to these aspects of Pakistan. Against this backdrop, we have taken note of President Trump's remarks regarding Pakistan's nuclear tests."
Andrabi rejected India's statement, saying, "India is clearly distorting facts and misrepresenting US President Donald Trump's remarks. The US side has already clarified its position to the media regarding the President's statements."
