Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, bringing touch-based interaction to its professional laptop lineup. The new device features an OLED display, powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, and a claimed battery life of up to 24 hours, making it an option for users who need high performance for demanding tasks.
The touchscreen MacBook Pro was unveiled at Apple's Pro & Tell event and will be available in 14-inch and 16-inch variants. It also features a 100Wh battery in the larger configuration, along with fast-charging support.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro Price in India
Apple's new MacBook Pro will be available in several configurations, with prices depending on the display size and processor.
The 14-inch model with the M5 Pro chip is priced at ₹3,49,900, while the 16-inch variant costs ₹4,09,900. Under the education offer, the prices are ₹3,31,900 and ₹3,85,900, respectively.
For customers opting for the more powerful M5 Max processor, the 14-inch model costs ₹5,49,900, while the 16-inch variant is priced at ₹5,89,900. With education pricing, these models are available for ₹5,12,900 and ₹5,52,900, respectively.
The laptop will be offered in Silver and Space Black colour options. According to the announcement, sales through Apple's online store are scheduled to begin on November 6.
Touchscreen MacBook Pro Display and Features
One of the biggest highlights of the new MacBook Pro is its 16.3-inch tandem OLED display, which is reported to offer peak brightness of up to 2,000 nits. The screen supports True Tone technology and an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.
The addition of multi-touch gestures is a major change for the MacBook Pro lineup, allowing users to interact directly with on-screen content instead of relying entirely on the trackpad and keyboard.
The laptop also features an anti-reflective coating and a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic layer. Buyers will reportedly have the option of choosing nano-textured glass for improved visibility in challenging lighting conditions.
Another notable feature is Dynamic Island, a display element previously introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro series. The device also includes a backlit Magic Keyboard and a 12-megapixel webcam.
The MacBook Pro is listed as running macOS 27 Golden Gate, which is expected to provide the software environment for its new touchscreen capabilities.
M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips Promise High Performance
The new MacBook Pro will be available with Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max processors. According to the reported specifications, the chips use a 3-nanometre manufacturing process and feature an 18-core CPU configuration consisting of 12 performance cores and six additional high-performance cores.
The performance-focused architecture is designed to improve computing efficiency and handle demanding workloads, including video editing, software development, professional creative applications and other intensive tasks.
The M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations are aimed at different users. The M5 Pro variant may suit professionals who need strong performance for everyday work and creative projects, while the M5 Max models are positioned for users who require greater processing power for more demanding applications.
For connectivity, the laptop reportedly includes Apple's N1 networking chip, supporting Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and Thread networking technology.
Battery Life of Up to 24 Hours
Battery performance is another key feature of the new MacBook Pro. The 16-inch M5 Pro model is equipped with a 100Wh battery and is claimed to deliver up to 24 hours of video streaming on a single charge.
The M5 Max versions are rated for up to 20 hours of video streaming on the 14-inch model and up to 22 hours on the 16-inch variant. The laptop also supports 140W fast charging, which can help reduce charging time.
Actual battery life will depend on factors such as screen brightness, applications, connectivity and workload. Video streaming estimates may differ considerably from battery performance during intensive professional tasks.
Is the New Touchscreen MacBook Pro Worth Considering?
The touchscreen functionality is the most significant reported change, potentially making it easier to navigate applications, manipulate creative content and interact with on-screen controls. Combined with the OLED display and upgraded processors, the laptop is designed for users who prioritise performance and premium features.
However, the starting price of ₹3,49,900 places it firmly in the premium laptop segment. Buyers should consider whether they need the additional processing power, display technology and touchscreen capabilities before choosing a configuration.
For professionals working with video editing, design, development and other resource-intensive applications, the new MacBook Pro could offer a compelling combination of performance and portability. Those who primarily use their laptops for browsing, office work and entertainment may find that a less expensive model meets their needs.
With its touchscreen display, new processors and claimed battery life of up to 24 hours, Apple's latest MacBook Pro represents a substantial reported change to its professional laptop range. Its appeal will ultimately depend on real-world performance, software support and how effectively the touchscreen integrates into everyday workflows.
