Ayush Mhatre Smashes Records with 206-Run Masterclass and Most Sixes in Youth Test Series

India’s Under-19 captain Ayush Mhatre has etched his name into the record books with a historic performance in the recently concluded Youth Test series against England. Mhatre not only became the Indian captain to score the most runs in a Youth Test match, but also surpassed some well-known names in terms of six-hitting prowess in red-ball cricket.

Ayush Mhatre scored a staggering 206 runs in the second Youth Test, comprising 80 in the first innings and 126 in the second. This performance broke a 19-year-old record previously held by Tanmay Srivastava, who had scored 199 runs in a Youth Test match in 2006. Mhatre is now the only Indian U-19 captain to breach the 200-run mark in a single Youth Test.

While Mhatre’s leadership with the bat stole the spotlight, his aggressive style left a mark as well. He smashed 9 sixes in the two-match series, setting a new record for the most sixes by an Indian in a Youth Test series. With six of those coming in a single innings, he surpassed the previous record of 8 sixes held by Saurabh Tiwari since 2007-08.

This power-packed performance also saw Mhatre outdo his opening partner and close friend Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had previously struck 7 sixes in a four-match Youth Test series against Australia. While Suryavanshi is known for his white-ball exploits, Mhatre has now clearly taken the lead in red-ball dominance among the young Indian talents.

Ayush Mhatre’s commanding performance—both in terms of runs and sixes—has not only earned him records but has also positioned him as a future star of Indian cricket. His fearless batting and strong leadership are being seen as a promising sign for Indian cricket’s next generation.
