The growing strain between the Indian and Bangladesh cricket boards is now spilling beyond the field and into commercial partnerships. After the IPL broadcast was reportedly banned in Bangladesh, fresh developments suggest that Bangladeshi players will no longer be able to use bats manufactured by Indian company SG.
According to reports, SG — one of India’s leading cricket bat manufacturers — has decided to terminate its sponsorship agreements with Bangladeshi cricketers amid the ongoing dispute between the two boards.
SG Ends Sponsorship Deals With Bangladeshi Players
Several Bangladesh batters had long used SG bats, including senior batter Litton Das, who has been named captain for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Reports indicate that SG has withdrawn from all existing kit sponsorship agreements with Bangladeshi players and has shown no interest in renewing or extending those deals.
As a result, Bangladeshi cricketers are now expected to switch to non-Indian bat manufacturers ahead of upcoming international tournaments.
How Did the India–Bangladesh Dispute Begin?
The tensions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Bangladesh Cricket Board intensified after Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman was excluded from the IPL. The decision reportedly drew strong reactions from Bangladesh’s Sports Ministry and cricket authorities.
Following government instructions, the Bangladesh Cricket Board wrote to the International Cricket Council, requesting that Bangladesh’s matches in the 2026 T20 World Cup be shifted out of India. Around the same time, Bangladesh also announced a ban on the broadcast of the IPL within the country.
ICC Rejects Bangladesh’s Request
The ICC has reportedly rejected Bangladesh’s request to move their T20 World Cup matches from India to Sri Lanka. The governing body has made it clear that Bangladesh must play according to the original tournament schedule.
As things stand, Bangladesh will play all of their group-stage matches of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India, with games scheduled in Kolkata and Mumbai.
