A disturbing incident in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, has left a local office and the family of a young female accountant in shock. On Thursday, the woman, who had left home for work in the morning, failed to reach the tehsil office even by noon. Concerned colleagues attempted to contact her — and during a 15-minute call discussing an official land case, she suddenly screamed, and the call abruptly ended.

Multiple follow-up calls went unanswered, prompting her coworkers to alert Tehsildar Surabhi Rai. Accompanied by other accountants, the Tehsildar rushed to Faridpur police station and reported the incident. The woman’s husband and brother also arrived soon after.

Phone Signal Tracked to Nawabganj

Police immediately put the woman’s mobile phone on surveillance, which traced its location to the Nawabganj area. Acting swiftly, officials from both Faridpur and Nawabganj police stations launched a joint search operation.

They eventually found the woman unconscious and admitted to a private hospital in Nawabganj. Initial findings revealed that she had gone to meet a young man from Pilibhit — someone she had grown close to during her earlier posting in that district. The man had rented a room in Nawabganj, where the two met.

Fight and Suicide Attempt Suspected

According to the police, the meeting escalated into a heated argument, following which the woman allegedly tried to hang herself. The young man then fled the scene but managed to get her admitted to a hospital before disappearing. However, suspicions have been raised that her scream during the phone call might indicate foul play, possibly an attempted murder.

Woman Still Unconscious, Investigation Underway

Inspector Arun Kumar Srivastava of Nawabganj police station confirmed that the woman is still unconscious and unable to give a statement. A young man has been detained for questioning, and further action will depend on the woman's testimony once she regains consciousness.

Her family, deeply shaken, has not yet filed a formal complaint. Meanwhile, police are exploring all angles — from suicide to possible assault — and are awaiting a detailed medical report from the hospital to proceed further.

This case has raised serious concerns, especially due to the unusual circumstances and the disturbing scream heard during the call. The investigation is ongoing.
