The central government has not made any changes to the interest rates on small savings schemes for the October-December quarter, the third quarter of the financial year 2026-27. These schemes include the Public Provident Fund (PPF), Post Office FDs, and the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY). This marks the 11th consecutive quarter of interest rates remaining unchanged.
The government last raised interest rates in December 2023. Following this move, the Public Provident Fund will continue to earn 7.1% and the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana will earn 8.2%.
It's worth noting that small savings scheme interest rates are reviewed every quarter. The Shyamala Gopinath Committee provides the formula for determining these interest rates. People are eagerly awaiting an increase in small savings scheme interest rates. This wait has grown.
