The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a decision regarding young Indian player Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Vaibhav, who is set to be a part of the Indian team at just 15 years old, will be accompanied by his parents on the UK tour. The board believes that adjusting to the senior team environment at such a young age is not easy for any player, so accompanying his family will help him feel better mentally. This move is also considered significant because players so young rarely reach the senior team.
Why would parents go to UK with Vaibhav?
Speaking to news agency PTI, the BCCI secretary said that it's rare to see 14-15-year-old players in the national team. He added that such an opportunity arose decades ago when Sachin Tendulkar joined the Indian team at a very young age. Now, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is poised for a similar start. The board believes that the rest of the team's players and staff are all young. Therefore, the support of his parents will help Vaibhav become comfortable in the new environment.
A good chance with a great performance in IPL 2026
Vaibhav Suryavanshi received this golden opportunity after his impressive performance in IPL 2026. The selection committee recognized his impressive performance and included him in the Indian T20 team for the first time. He scored 776 runs in 16 matches and batted at a strike rate of 237.30 throughout the season. During this period, he hit 72 sixes and 63 fours. He also scored a century and five half-centuries. Due to his impressive performance, he earned a place in the India A team for the first time and is currently participating in the tri-series being played in Sri Lanka.
Will Vaibhav be able to break Sachin Tendulkar's record?
It's worth noting that Vaibhav could soon become one of the youngest players to play for the Indian team. Currently, this record is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut against Pakistan at the age of 16 years and 205 days. Cricket fans are now keeping an eye on Vaibhav to see how he progresses in his initial international career.
