Bengaluru Techie: Lifestyle of girl earning Rs 50 lakh goes viral

Despite earning ₹5 million annually, this 27-year-old tech professional from Bengaluru avoids spending on luxury items. She prioritizes travel and experiences over expensive items. She believes that experiences are more important than things.

A 27-year-old tech professional based in Bengaluru is shattering common stereotypes about high incomes and luxury spending. Her annual income of around ₹50 lakh (₹50 lakh), often associated with a premium lifestyle, is a common misconception. But she says her financial decisions are different from what most people think. Instead of chasing appearances or changing fashion trends, she spends her money wisely. Her priorities are long-term goals and her own happiness.

This data engineer shares insights from her life on Instagram under the handle @thinking.mori. Recently, she discussed her lifestyle choices. She explained that she deliberately avoids spending money on things like the latest iPhone model, Zara clothes, and expensive purses, which are often considered benchmarks of success among young professionals.

She further explained that her approach is not one of deprivation, but of choice. She invests her wealth in things that matter more to her than societal expectations. After revealing her income of ₹50 lakh, she said, "There's so much money, but there are also loans, so we choose experiences over things."

The techie previously revealed in a video that she pays an EMI of Rs 30,000 every month for the house she bought for her parents. She explained, "I know a house is a kind of liability, but some things are emotional and I wanted to do this for my parents because they have done so much for me."

In her video, she explained, "Experiences >> Objects," and listed the things she doesn't spend money on. These include the latest iPhone, fancy cars, fancy desk setups, and Zara clothes. When someone in the comments asked what she counts as experiences, she replied, "Traveling, Pilates, and good food." To another user, she replied, "I've traveled to 5 countries in the last 2 years. This is what I mean when I say experiences are more important than things."

In her most recent video, she explained that since she has debt, she prefers to spend her money carefully. One way she does this is by avoiding spending money on things like luxury purses, even though she "loves" them.

Her idea is simple: spend on what adds value to your life. And for her, that value comes from experiences rather than things. "If you know me, you know I can spend ₹10 lakh on travel, so what I'm really saying is do whatever you want, but don't exhaust yourself completely," the Bengaluru-based techie said in the caption of her Instagram video.

People's reaction

Her video received many supportive comments from like-minded people. One user commented, "I'm like that too. I don't spend money on manicures and pedicures or expensive, ostentatious clothes because I live in a nice apartment and I like to spend money on travel and taking my parents on trips."
