Canadian authorities have taken major action against an alleged shooter linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, ordering the deportation of Indian national Abjeet Kingra after immigration officials concluded he was involved in organized criminal activity.
According to reports, Kingra entered Canada in 2018 on a study permit and later came under the radar of investigators for allegedly working with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Authorities claim he was involved in a shooting incident in September 2024 in British Columbia’s Colwood area, where multiple rounds were fired at a residential property. The same case is also linked to an arson attack involving vehicles parked outside the home.
Investigators further allege that the target of the attack was associated with Indian-origin singer AP Dhillon, and that the Bishnoi gang later circulated a social media video claiming responsibility. Kingra, however, has argued during proceedings that he was drawn into criminal activity for financial reasons and did not fully understand the gang structure. Canadian border officials rejected this claim, stating that organized gangs often operate through layered networks where lower-level operatives may not know the full hierarchy.
The Immigration and Refugee Board described the Bishnoi gang as an organized criminal network involved in serious offences including extortion, intimidation, arson, drug trafficking, and contract killings. Officials also noted that the gang has been active across several Canadian provinces, including British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario, where Indian-origin businessmen, artists, and others have allegedly been targeted through threats and extortion demands.
In a broader crackdown, Canadian agencies have reportedly opened investigations into more than 400 related cases of gang-linked extortion and violence, with multiple suspects already deported or under investigation. Authorities also stated that despite being incarcerated, Lawrence Bishnoi continues to influence and expand his network from behind bars.
Kingra, who is currently serving a six-year sentence in connection with separate charges, is expected to appeal the deportation order, claiming he faces potential danger if returned to India. Meanwhile, another accused, Vikram Sharma, is believed to have fled India following the incident and remains wanted by Canadian agencies.
