With the festive season approaching, central government employees are waiting for the announcement of the annual Productivity Linked Bonus (PLB). Employee organizations are demanding that the government release the bonus before Dussehra and, more importantly, revise the salary ceiling used to calculate it.
Bonus may be announced in early October
Employee organizations are pushing for the bonus to be credited before Dussehra. A letter from the Joint Council of Postal Employees has reportedly requested that the payment be made before Durga Puja.
While there is no final government announcement yet, employee representatives expect the bonus decision could come in the first week of October.
Why are employees demanding ₹21,000?
At present, the bonus calculation is based on a monthly salary ceiling of ₹7,000. Employee organizations, including the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), are demanding that this ceiling be increased to ₹21,000.
Their argument is that the existing ₹7,000 ceiling is outdated and does not reflect current wage levels and inflation.
How much bonus could employees receive?
Using the existing formula of 30.4 days:

However, ₹21,000 is currently a demand from employee organizations, not an approved bonus ceiling. Employees should therefore not assume that ₹20,724 will definitely be credited.
Why is there controversy over ordnance factory employees?
The bonus issue has also triggered protests among employees of several ordnance factories. The All India Defence Employees Federation has objected to the calculation of bonus for employees at facilities including Shahjahanpur, Kanpur, Awadi and Hazratpur on the basis of 18.56 days rather than the standard 30.4-day calculation.
The organization is demanding that eligible employees receive the bonus based on the higher calculation.
