EPFO Interest Rate Update: PF Subscribers to Continue Getting 8.25% Interest

There is positive news for millions of salaried employees who contribute to the Provident Fund. The government has clarified the interest rate for the upcoming financial period, bringing stability for workers saving for retirement.

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has decided to keep the Provident Fund interest rate unchanged at 8.25 percent for the financial year 2025–26. The decision was approved by the EPFO Central Board of Trustees, which oversees policies related to employee provident fund schemes.

Interest Rate Remains Unchanged

According to the announcement, PF subscribers will continue to receive 8.25% annual interest on their deposits, the same rate that was offered in the previous financial year.

This decision is important for salaried workers because the Provident Fund is one of the main long-term savings tools used for retirement planning. The interest earned each year significantly increases the overall balance in the account.

How PF Interest Is Calculated

Interest on PF accounts is calculated every month based on the closing balance in the account. However, the total interest amount is credited to the subscriber’s account at the end of the financial year.

The calculation follows a compounding method, meaning that interest is earned not only on monthly contributions but also on the existing balance accumulated in the account.

Example of PF Interest Calculation

To understand the impact of the current interest rate, consider a simple example.

If a subscriber has ₹3,00,000 in their PF account and the interest rate is 8.25%, the annual interest earned would be approximately ₹24,750. This amount is added to the existing balance, helping the retirement fund grow over time.
