Foldable iPhone Ultra: Apple May Solve the Biggest Problem of Foldables

Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with its first-ever foldable device, likely to be called the iPhone Ultra. What’s creating the most buzz is not just the foldable design, but the possibility of a crease-free display, something that even current foldable phones struggle to achieve.
According to leaks, Apple is working on a special material called Optically Clear Adhesive (OCA) to tackle the crease issue. This adhesive is already used in smartphones to bond display layers, but Apple is said to be using it in a more advanced way. The goal is to reduce the visible line or “crease” that forms when a foldable screen bends repeatedly.
The science behind this is quite interesting. OCA has viscoelastic properties, which means it can adjust its stiffness depending on pressure. When the screen folds, the adhesive softens and spreads the stress evenly across the display. This prevents pressure from concentrating at a single point—one of the main reasons creases form. It also fills microscopic gaps and reduces light distortion, making the screen appear smoother and clearer.
If Apple successfully implements this technology, it could significantly improve the durability and visual quality of foldable displays. This would give users a more seamless experience, closer to using a regular smartphone screen rather than a visibly folded one.
As per reports, this foldable iPhone Ultra could launch around September alongside upcoming flagship models like the iPhone 18 Pro series. It is expected to feature a book-style foldable design and possibly a dual-camera setup, although official confirmation is still awaited.
If these leaks turn out to be true, Apple could set a new benchmark in the foldable segment by solving one of its biggest flaws—the screen crease—potentially reshaping the future of smartphone design.
