Foods You Should Avoid Eating with Ghee: Insights from Experts

Ghee is a staple in many Indian households, loved for its rich flavor and ability to enhance the taste of various dishes. From spreading on roti to adding to dal, khichdi, or cooking vegetables, ghee plays a key role in Indian cuisine. However, there are certain foods that should not be consumed with ghee, as this combination can negatively affect your health.

According to Ayurveda, mixing ghee with some specific foods can cause digestive issues and other health problems. While ghee is generally beneficial for the body and skin, improper consumption can lead to unwanted side effects.

Ayurvedic expert Dr. Kiran Gupta explains that certain combinations with ghee can disturb digestion and harm health. She specifically advises against consuming ghee with fish and honey.


Foods to Avoid Eating with Ghee

1. Honey

Both ghee and honey are praised for their health benefits individually, but Ayurveda strongly warns against consuming them together. Combining ghee and honey produces toxins in the body, which can weaken the digestive system. This combination is considered harmful, almost like poison.

2. Tea or Coffee

Though some believe adding ghee to tea or coffee can ease menstrual cramps, this practice is not recommended. Adding ghee to these beverages can disrupt digestion and cause acidity or stomach discomfort.

3. Fish

Ghee has a heating effect on the body, while fish is considered cooling. Eating them together can trigger skin problems such as allergies and itching. Hence, fish should ideally be cooked in oil rather than ghee.

4. Milk

Both milk and ghee have their own health benefits. However, if you consume too much ghee with hot milk, it can be heavy on the stomach, slow down digestion, and cause lethargy. Mixing excessive ghee in hot milk is therefore not advised.

5. Radish

Radish is cooling in nature, whereas ghee has a warming effect. Combining these two can imbalance your body temperature and may lead to stomach ache or acidity. To avoid such problems, it’s best not to eat radish and ghee together.
