A bizarre and unsettling incident from Telangana has once again highlighted how far some individuals are willing to go for social media attention. At a busy bus stand in southern India, a young man disguised in a burqa sat among female passengers for hours. When his true identity was uncovered, the explanation he offered left commuters—and even the police—astonished.
The incident took place at the Korutla bus stand in Jagtial district, an area that typically witnesses heavy passenger movement during morning hours. What initially appeared to be an ordinary day quickly turned tense after women waiting for buses began noticing something unusual.
Suspicious Behavior Raises Alarm
According to eyewitnesses, a person dressed in a full burqa arrived early in the morning and took a seat reserved exclusively for women at the Korutla bus stand. At first glance, nothing seemed out of place. However, over time, several women grew uncomfortable due to the passenger’s odd conduct.
The individual reportedly avoided eye contact, changed seating positions frequently, and appeared overly cautious about nearby movements. Some women felt uneasy and shared their concerns with staff members of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), who were present at the terminal.
RTC staff discreetly observed the individual for some time. As suspicion deepened, they alerted local authorities to prevent any possible threat to passenger safety.
Police Intervention Uncovers the Truth
When police officers arrived and began questioning the burqa-clad passenger, the individual appeared nervous and gave inconsistent responses. Sensing something amiss, officers escorted the person to the police station for further verification.
During questioning, it was revealed that the individual was not a woman, but a young man attempting to conceal his identity. The revelation stunned everyone involved, including passengers who had shared the waiting area with him for hours.
Police later identified the accused as Suman, a resident of Padimadugu village in the Korutla Mandal of Telangana.
The Motive: Social Media Fame
What surprised authorities the most was the reason behind the act. During interrogation, Suman admitted that he had no criminal intent such as theft, harassment, or fare evasion. Instead, he claimed his sole purpose was to record content for social media.
According to police sources, Suman confessed that he planned to create Instagram Reels featuring his disguise and the reactions it generated. He hoped the stunt would go viral online and earn him instant recognition and followers.
Another youth, identified as Akhil, was also booked in connection with the incident for allegedly assisting in planning the act.
Public Fear and Safety Concerns
The incident caused panic at the bus stand, particularly among women passengers. Many expressed fear that such disguises could be misused for serious crimes, including harassment or violence.
Passengers questioned how easily someone could exploit public spaces under the pretext of social media content creation. The episode sparked broader discussions on commuter safety and the misuse of online platforms for dangerous stunts.
Police Action and Warning
Police registered a case against the accused for causing public nuisance and creating fear in a public place. While no major criminal charges were invoked, authorities issued a strict warning to the youth involved.
Officials emphasized that stunts performed for online fame can have serious legal consequences, especially when they compromise public safety or infringe upon personal security.
“This was not harmless fun,” a police official stated. “Such behavior creates panic and could easily lead to dangerous situations.”
A Cautionary Tale for the Social Media Age
The Korutla bus stand incident serves as a stark reminder of how obsession with virality can blur moral and legal boundaries. Law enforcement agencies have urged young people to act responsibly online and avoid content that could endanger others or themselves.
