What is glaucoma?
Health experts say that glaucoma is a dangerous eye disease and if it is not identified on time, it can make someone blind. This disease slowly damages the optic nerve. There are two types of glaucoma. The first is open angle glaucoma, this is the most common type of glaucoma and 90 percent of the people suffering from this disease are victims of this. In this condition, the flow of liquid substance from the eyes decreases and pressure starts building up on the eyes. The second type of glaucoma is angle closure glaucoma. This is more dangerous than the first type but it happens to very few people. In this condition, fluid suddenly accumulates inside the eye, which causes sudden and rapid pressure on the eye.
Glaucoma Risks and Symptoms
Open angle glaucoma rarely shows any symptoms but angle closure glaucoma has clear symptoms. Its symptoms include severe pain in the eyes, blurred vision, seeing light rings around light, headache, vomiting and nausea, redness of the eyes and swelling in the cornea. The biggest risk of glaucoma is that it gradually weakens the vision and eventually vision stops. Due to this, the optic nerve gets damaged for which there is no cure.
