Government’s New Digital Push: These Services Could Make It Easier to Access Your Documents and Schemes Online

The Indian government is expanding its digital public-service network to make everyday government services easier to access from smartphones. A recent update from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology highlighted the growing role of platforms such as UMANG and DigiLocker in providing citizens with government services and digital documents.

For people who regularly need certificates, official documents or government services, these platforms can reduce the need for paperwork and repeated visits to government offices.

UMANG Now Offers Thousands of Government Services

UMANG brings services from central and state governments together on a single digital platform. According to the latest government update, the platform offered around 2,575 services as of July 31, 2026.

Instead of visiting different department websites for every requirement, users can check whether the service they need is available through UMANG.

DigiLocker Makes Important Documents Easier to Access

DigiLocker has become another important part of India's digital government infrastructure. The platform allows users to access digitally issued documents and certificates from participating government departments.

The latest government information says DigiLocker has crossed 72 crore registered users and offers access to more than 5,400 document types and services.

This can be particularly useful when you need to present an official document for education, employment, applications or other purposes.

You May Not Need to Carry Every Document Physically

One of the biggest advantages of digital documents is convenience. Instead of carrying multiple physical certificates, eligible documents can be accessed through DigiLocker whenever required.

However, users should make sure that the document is an officially issued or verified digital document and follow the requirements of the organisation requesting it.

Services Are Connected Through Digital Infrastructure

The government says platforms such as UMANG and DigiLocker are integrated with digital infrastructure including Aadhaar, eSign and API Setu. These connections help different government services communicate and support paperless delivery.

The aim is to make government services more accessible while reducing dependence on physical paperwork.

What Should You Do?

If you frequently apply for government services or need official documents, check UMANG and DigiLocker before visiting a government office.

You should also keep your registered mobile number updated and protect your account credentials. Never share OTPs, passwords or other confidential information with someone claiming to provide government services.

Digital Government Services Are Expanding

The latest expansion shows how government services are increasingly moving toward digital platforms. UMANG can help users access multiple services from one place, while DigiLocker can keep eligible government documents available digitally.

For citizens, the biggest benefit is convenience: fewer physical documents, less paperwork and potentially fewer trips to government offices for services that can be completed online.
