Honda Cars India Limited has achieved a major milestone by exporting 200,000 cars from India, demonstrating the strength of Indian manufacturing and the global appeal of Honda vehicles. This achievement highlights the success of the Make in India initiative and showcases Honda’s quality and trust worldwide.
Honda began its export journey with SAARC countries such as Nepal and Bhutan. By 2021, the company had shipped 50,000 units to SAARC, South Africa, and SADC countries. Exports then expanded rapidly, with another 50,000 units reaching left-hand-drive markets like the Middle East, Mexico, and Turkey within just two and a half years. A major boost came with the mid-size SUV Honda Elevate (sold as the WR-V in Japan), which added 100,000 units in exports over two years.
The Honda City and Honda Elevate were the top contributors, together accounting for 78% of total exports. Other models like the Brio, Amaze, Jazz, BR-V, Mobilio, City e:HEV, Accord, and CR-V made up the remaining 22%.

Today, Honda’s Made-in-India cars reach 33 countries, with Japan being the largest market (30% of exports). South Africa and SADC countries account for 26%, Mexico 19%, Turkey 16%, and the remaining 9% are sent to the Middle East, SAARC, South America, and the Caribbean.
Commenting on this achievement, Kunal Bahr, Vice President of Honda Cars India, said, “Exporting 200,000 units is a testament to the hard work of our employees and the company’s strong manufacturing capabilities. It reflects the global trust and popularity of Honda cars made in India.”
This milestone underscores the growing strength of India’s automobile industry and the global success of Make-in-India vehicles, with Honda aiming to expand its domestic and international presence further.
