New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami was left out of the squad for the England tour. He was also not part of the Asia Cup squad. He was also not selected for the ODI series against Australia. Shami is considered one of the most successful fast bowlers in Indian cricket history. He has taken 471 dismissals in 197 matches for India. Currently, Shami is playing for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy.
What did Mohammed Shami say?
Mohammed Shami last played for India in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He recently commented on his omission from Team India. He said, "Selection is not in my hands. If fitness is a concern, I shouldn't play for Bengal. I don't feel I need to stir up controversy by speaking out on this. If I can play four-day cricket, I can also play 50-over cricket."
Agarkar replied to Shami
Ajit Agarkar has responded to Mohammed Shami's statement. When asked about Shami at the ADTV Summit, he said, "If he says that to me, I'll definitely respond. If I read what he said, I'll call him. I've had several conversations with him over the past few months. If he said something, I'll have to talk to him about it."
Agarkar further said, "If he were fit, he would have been on the flight to England. The domestic season has just started, and we will see if he is fully fit. We wanted to include him in the squad for the Australia tour, but he was not fit. If he is fit in the next two months, the story could change."
